Sushi is the rage. Sushi is exotic, it’s delicious, it’s classy, and it’s cool. Every major city in the US now has sushi, and Seattle is no exception. People here love it! There’s not only classic sushi restaurants, but also three or four conveyor-belt sushi chains. The demand is so high! Now, every now and then, there will be talk about which sushi restaurants people like, and you know how outspoken white people are! They love to voice their opinions, and they’ll start telling me which sushi restaurants are their favorites. “Oh, you gotta try Mashiko! It’s the best!” Or, “My favorite place is Hiroshi’s” or “Wasabi Bistro is the best sushi in town!”. Now, I have had an open mind and have taken their word and tried these various places my Caucasian friends and coworkers have told me about. And sure enough, I’m disappointed every fuckin’ time!
Conclusion. White people don’t know sushi. Just like you don’t ask a black man to teach you how to swim, you don’t ask a white person to tell you where to get the best raw fish. They don’t know. They might THINK they know, but they don’t know. Sorry. You were raised on Oscar Meyer Bologna and Chef Boyardi, and Kraft Mac&Cheese. You had peanut butter and jelly for lunches in school. Pizza Hut was a delicacy for you. Therefore, your taste buds are all fucked up. You can’t taste anything with subtlety. All you can taste is extremely sweet foods, or extremely salty and spicy foods. Sushi is very delicate in taste and texture. No, the rice isn’t meant to soak up all the soy sauce, and the soy sauce should not look like green tea from the tablespoon of wasabi you mixed into it. No, there’s no need to scrape your wooden chopsticks together back and forth. There are no splinters, so relax.
I have no doubt that white people love sushi and have acquired the taste of sushi. But, to think you can recommend a good sushi place to me is absurd. These are times when white people need to learn to be humble. They should say, “in my limited experience with sushi, I felt that So and So Restaurant was delicious. If you go, please tell me what you think!” I think that’s the tone people need to adopt, not the “So and So Restaurant is the BEST!” And, sure enough, I will go, and say “It was so-so.” 
But, I have learned that some people don’t really judge restaurants by the food, they are more impressed with the ambience. For me, it’s all about the food, and whether the price was justified. If the food is good, and the price is reasonable, it gets an A for me. Ambience is secondary to these. A lot of people are so engrossed in the mood and ambience that they seem to forget to taste the fuckin’ food!

BTW, I think the best Sushi shop in seattle is ‘I Love Sushi’.

So true lol but the part about “You were raised on Oscar Meyer Bologna” I would have replace Bologna with wiener like in the Oscar Meyer song back in the days; “Oh I love my Oscar Meyer Wiener, something something else that I forgot.”
Anyway, I agree with you as I too are recommended restaurants that serve average to below average food for my taste but apparently my Caucasian friends love the stuff. They just haven’t been around much to experience the “real authentic” Asian cuisine. We AA need to show them around more.

I NEVER ask a white person for suggestions on asian restaurants, ever! That’s just stupid. They don’t know shit about good Asian eats and eateries. White people love ambience and are satisfied with mediocre “asian” food. As long as the place is dimly lit, have a extensive wine list, and great service, they’ll think it’s the best asian place since Panda Express. Wine list? come on! the greatest asian food at the hole in the wall run by a family of 4 does NOT have a wine list. they just have good food. hey, if the kitchen is not dirty, then the food is not good asian food.

Asian Fusion restaurants – this is complete bullshit. it’s a marketing scheme concocted by bunch of ignorant tastless white people that they’ve been able to sell to the ignorant white customers. i’ve been to countless Asian fusion places and ended up paying $40 per person for shit food. complete bullshit. it’s so typical that the whites would just combine all the asian countries into one single type of asian dish and make customers pay money for it. What, is vietnamese or thai food by itself not good enough, that they have to insert chinese or polynesian in there? i NEVER eat at asian fusion places, ever! ti’s always been disappointing and laughable. and even more laughable to see white people drink their expensive wines, along with their $40 General Tso chicken, and have the nerve to say this asian dish was so good.

you know how white people eat their sushi? they drown that shit in the soy sauce, chew for 2 seconds, and swallow. and proclaim how good sushi is! Yeah, it’s fuckin ridiculous. you drown anything in soy sauce, it’s going to be extremely salty, motherfucker! And once you drown it in soy sauce, you can’t taste the fresh raw fish anymore, or the seaweed, or whatever is in the sushi. I have a buddy who is South American, and boy is his taste fucked up! Every time he chooses a restaurant, we’re fucked over. He forgets to tell us that it’s at least $40 per plate, and the wine is like $12 a bottle. He particularly likes Wild Ginger, one of the worst Asian Fusion restaurants in Seattle. It’s one of those places that has all kinds of foods: Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and maybe even Japanese. Basically, it means that they aren’t authentic, and can’t make up their minds. Small portions, bad location, and expensive. But, dimly lit, so it’s all good to him. I think most people just don’t realize how good food is because they haven’t been abroad. Once you do, then you realize that you’ve been eating crap all these years.
But, funny thing is, people get used to the crap, and start craving it, so even when they find some great new flavors, their old habits prevent them from really appreciating it.

Asian Fusion!!! Do not get me started on this. I went to a “Fusion” Thai place and damnit, it was not good at all! and hella expensive! their wine list was a giant booklet. and they had al these fancy names for dishes, huh? just bring me some Pud Thai and Garlic Beef and i’m good. i looked around, and it’s all white people, swirling and sipping their wine glasses, eating their “fusion” cuisines with forks and knives. fuck that! I felt like an alien in some weird twilight zone place.
They had candles and nice violin music in the bakcground. and charged me $20 a plate. WTF? ridiculous.
I hate fusion places. whites love it.

Actually, I had to go to Wild Ginger for a business thing. To be fair, it wasn’t bad, but definitely not authentic. It was in the Bravern, a very snobby high end shopping center that just opened up in Bellevue/Seattle. The portions were small, food was average, but very fancy. I was shocked to hear the Tsing Tao was like $6! That’s typically a cheap beer.

I’ve never had a decent meal at Wild Ginger respective to what I paid. I’d rather eat at Panda Express than pay $40 for Mongolian Beef.
But bottomline, white people love ambience, extensive wine list, and great customer service. This all adds up to a very expensive bill that they think is justified. Not us Asians. we know better. We don’t care about ambience or great service – I mean, true Asian eateries have horrible service anyway, so we’re used to it. We just want good asian food. that’s all. forget the wine list. we’ll drink tea. forget desert, us asians don’t really eat dessert after a big meal.
I think if the place gives the customers (white or asian) a fork rather than chopsticks, that’s a red flag.

I am always leery of places serving more than one Asian cuisine and the supermarkets too. Panda Express – gut wadding – better than hot dogs though.
I’ll try to remember to ask an AA before trying sushi – not bad advice and good comment on the soy sauce – try it first before seasoning at any restaurant.
I had to say the less fancy Chinese restaurants served me the best Moo Shu Pork, Chicken with Garlic sauce, etc. Hard to get it spicy enough or with the right ingredients for Szechuan cuisine. My Chinese Engineer pals from Shanghai, always talk to the cook and don’t necessarily order from the menu, but they like the same restaurant I do.
Worst for Szechuan cuisine is in the Miami Florida area – bland for the Cubans, but hey you get sweet platains on the buffet! Better know Chinese or Spanish there too.
I like to cook with a heavy hand on the spices, which is sometime and not other authentic. Mild flavored good food a good change of pace. What is good Sushi to someone grown up with canned tuna?
