Asian American Work Equality Part II

We had a lot of great comments on the previous article about this. It seems that the organization who made those findings is called “80-20 Educational Foundation”, and the President is a S.B.Woo.  They seem well organized, and supporting them is a good way to get our voices heard in the media.  They are currently working on posting an ad in the Washington Post about their findings, and I urge you if you can to make a donation for the cause.

We here at SingleAsianMale.com are not an Asian political organization, so I think it’s a good idea to join with other well-organized groups like this one to get our agenda out.  This is for us as well as our future families.  Here is the link to their website:  http://www.80-20educationalfoundation.org/ .

Seen below is YOUR full-page color ad to appear in Washington Post
at the back of its Business section! It is a well-designed package making
the best case presentation on behalf of YOU and your children. At the
least, it will become the raison d’etre of a long struggle to eliminate
the glass ceiling above us. At the best, it’ll become the shock wave
shattering the glass ceiling HERE AND NOW. Please read the ad now.

So, I’ve heard this before, Amy Tan seems to believe it, and I’ve heard it recently on another site.  However, I have personally never seen evidence of this.  All my SAM friends are nice to ladies from what I can tell.  But, there’s this rumor that says Asian men treat women badly.  I’ve even heard we are abusive and violent.  Is this truth or fiction?  Where did this rumor originate?

I was thinking perhaps it’s because Asian men are considered ‘unexpressive’ or ’stoic’, and we have the stereotype that we don’t show as much affection towards women as whites or blacks.  Perhaps this has been misconstrued to mean that we treat women badly.  Granted, more traditional Asian men may expect a woman to be a housewife and cook and clean, but I don’t see this kind of stubborn thinking these days so much.  Further, there are men from other races who have the same stubborn ideas.

In any case, I don’t know of any studies that show that we are MORE abusive to women than males from other ethnicities.  So, what do you guys think?

Priest: “Peter, you may now kiss the bride.”
Peter: “I can’t!!! Not here!!!”

No, we are not talking about your personal digital assistant! Put that back in your pocket! We are talking about PUBLIC DISPLAYS of AFFECTION. We’ve noticed that Asian guys tend to be less expressive in public. I know I am. When you see an Asian man with a woman, it’s hard to tell if they are a couple, or if they are brother and sister. There seems to be a 2 foot separation rule at all times. No hugging, and no kissing. Holding hands only on the 1st and 15th day of every month.

Now, Americans (whites and blacks) on the other hand love PDA. I don’t know if it’s because they love to show off, or because they really are oblivious due to their passion for each other. You’ll see them making out at bars, on the street, Starbucks, and even Toys’R'us. Read the rest of this entry »

Details Magazine – “Gay or Asian?”
icon1 Controversial SAM | icon2 | icon4 08 30th, 2006| icon356 Comments »

I have been a subscriber of Details Magazine for years. That is until I saw the infamous “Gay or Asian?” article in 2004. I remember vividly when I first came across it – I was speechless. For those of you who don’t know, Details had a article written by Whitney McNally with a picture of an Asian male dressed in regular clothes. The challenge Details was presenting was figuring out if the guy was gay or Asian. Read this article!

This really pissed me off. It told me that some white people assume they can get away with it because the target is a bunch of passive Asians. Do you think they would’ve had the gull to do a “Black or Criminal?”? No way in hell. They know that if they had done so, the powerful Black organizations and groups would raise hell. The point is that they think they can pull this shit off and consequently, Asians get no respect whatsoever. There is nothing wrong with gays or homosexuals but I do have a huge problem with the fact that they think Asian guys are effeminate and gay-like in the stereotypical sense. I remember sharing my feelings and this article to a couple of SAMs…they blew me off saying I was too serious and I need to chill out. This infuriated me! That’s the exact type of passive behavior the white people assume and expect from us.

Asian Racism…against other Asians?

So here’s the deal.  When I was in college, I had an asian roommate.  He was fairly Americanized in that he was born in the US and had a lot of non-Asian friends.  Then one day, we both decided to go to an Asian Pride festival on campus.  We met some really nice people (all Asian) and had a good time.  We also got invited to a few meetings/parties as well.  However, this is where things turned south…

My friend attended a Chinese American Student Association meeting and I went to a Korean American Student Association meeting.  We both walked away with different perspectives.  I thought it was a pretty interesting group, but they all seemed to have blinders on in that they just hung out with each other and bitched about how the university doesn’t fund their events.  They really encouraged me to go to dinner, sit in a certain area in the Quad, and date some of their friends.  This made me a bit uncomfortable in that the premise of their gestures was that only Koreans were invited.  I declined and didn’t go to another meeting.

Hey guys, we’re getting a lot of great feedback from everyone about the site.  We wouldn’t be doing this unless we truly believed in this cause.  Information becomes more valuable when more people have it.  One thing we did was post our article on Digg to get the word out about our efforts (that includes you guys as well!)  Anyway, if you’re registered on Digg, go to this link and give us a few Diggs.  Thanks!

Luci Liu: I hate this bitch for one reason and one reason only – she never talks about being Asian or her Asian heritage. She’s so ingrained into the white Hollywood and too busy acting “white”, she won’t even mention anything about her Chinese upbringing, her struggles in getting into Hollywood as a full Chinese American. Is she ashamed of being Asian? Is she embarrassed? She can do a lot by speaking out and saying something about this. But she’s too busy fucking white Hollywood guys. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but you can at least share the struggles of Asian American women in cinema since there are so very few who actually make it. Look at how often Halle Berry mentions black actresses and their struggles. And I’m tired of white people thinking she’s so beautiful. She’s not! Goodness, white people obviously haven’t seen some of the Japanese and Korean actresses in Japan and Korea. This bitch is not hot! Uhh…good actress though, I’ll give her that.
